AFTER ,smart phones, and smart cities, now comes the smart cars soon in future ,that can talk and save lives.
A common traffic scenario -A driver moves along in traffic , the forward view blocked by a truck ,or bend in the road. Suddenly , up ahead ,someone slams on the brakes.Tires screech. Now there is little time to react.
Researchers are working to add time to that equation. They envision a future in which vehicles are in constant , harmonious communication with one another and their surroundings, instantly warning drivers of unseen dangers.
Many such situations can cause a serious accidents like- when some one brakes quickly ,a driver runs a red light ,or a bus bears down unseen in a passing lane ,when such situation arise ,dashboards in near by cars lights up immediately with warnings -thus providing additional reaction time to avoid a pile- up.
This new technology is named 'vehicle to vehicle communication'. This new technology will be installed in all cars and trucks&n bsp; in the US.
According to Transportation secretary Anthony Fox x ,it will be the next great advance in saving lives.
This technology is being tested in University town of Michigan by a group of academic, industry and government researchers.
This technology can easily be retrofitted into ordinary cars .The national highway safety Administration estimates vehicle -to-vehicle transmitters will add only about $350 to the total cost of a vehicle by 2020.By the end of the decade , the typical American vehicle will be part of a network, constantly sharing information as it travels.
At a government- sponsored pilot program in Ann Arbor, and is run by the University of Michigan transportation research Institute , nearly 3,000 vehicles driven by volunteers are being tested in real-world conditions.
Already ,there are cars that monitors blind spots ,warns drivers when they jump a lane and even park themselves. But they can warn of only what they see.
This , new project focuses on hazards that even electronic eyes can't spot. Thus making driving more safe and secure .
