WORLD'S FIRST BIONIC EYE TRANSPLANT

Surgeons in Manchester have performed the first bionic eye implant in a patient with the most common cause of sight loss in the developed world. Ray Flynn, 80, has dry age-related macular degeneration which has led to the total loss of his central vision. He is using a retinal implant which converts video images from a miniature video camera worn on his glasses. He can now make out the direction of white lines on a computer screen using the retinal implant.  Mr Flynn said he was "delighted" with the implant and hoped in time it would improve his vision sufficiently to help him with day-to-day tasks like gardening and shopping  T he Argus II implant, manufactured by the US firm Second Sight, has previously been used to restore some vision to patients who are blind as a result of a rare condition known as retinitis pigmentosa.  The operation, at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, is the first time it has been implanted in a patient with age-related macular degenerati

China has unveiled the world’s first facial recognition ATM. The new cash machine was developed by Tsinghua University, a research university in Beijing, and Tzekwan Technology, a Hangzhou-based company specializing in financial security protection, Chinese state media reported. “This technology will ensure the greater security of card owners," said Gu Zikun, Tzekwan chairman and anti-graft expert. KILLER ROBOT-ALARMING FUTURE

In    first   of   its   own   kind of  incident , A   Robot  grabbed  a  worker  and    crushed  him  to  death, in  a  German   car   factory. Volkswagen   said    that  a  22-year-old   contractor    at  a plant  in    Baunatal ,near  Frankfurt,  was  setting  up  a  stationary   robot  Monday  when  it  grabbed  him  and  crushed  him   against  a  metal  plate . The  robot  is    usually  programmed    by  humans   to  performed   discrete    tasks  in  the  assembly   process,  but  this  time  something  went  wrong  A  second   factory  worker   was  in  the  area  when  the  incident  occur     but  was  unharmed. According  to  VW  spokesman    Heiko   Hill-wig,the  incident  can  probably   be  blamed  on  human  error,  based  on  company's  initial   investigation. "It  normally   operates   within  a confined  area  at  he  plant ,grabbing  auto parts  and  manipulating  them,"Hillwig  said.  If  true ,that  would  be  reassuring,because  this  sort  o
