FRUITS TO AVOID , IF YOU HAVE DIABETES

If you have diabetes, chance are someone has said that you are not allowed to eat fruit. This is not true; people with diabetes can eat fruit and fruit can be included in a healthy eating plan. But, because fruit is a carbohydrate, fruit will affect your blood sugar and you cannot eat unlimited amounts. And certain fruits may cause your blood sugars to spike at a quicker pace than others. The tricky part about eating with diabetes is that everyone responds to food differently. While one person maybe able to eat apples without any issue, someone else may find that apples cause their blood sugars to spike. Testing your blood sugars before and after eating fruit can help you to determine which fruits are best for you  Other ways to keep blood sugars controlled while enjoying fruit is to think about the context in which you eat it. You'll have a better chance at keeping your blood sugars controlled if you avoid juice altogether, limit your fruit servings to no more than

NOW THREE -D COFFEE CUPS FOR ASTRONAUTS IN SPACE

Life in zero gravity is much different than life on Earth.  We   get to enjoy both the taste and the smell of drinking hot coffee from a mug. Astronauts on the International Space Station don’t have this luxury and must drink their coffee using a straw that draws the liquid out of a closed container. This diminished coffee experience may change for the astronauts thanks to a new 3D-printedcup designed to help NASA study the behavior of fluids in micro-gravity. The idea for studying coffee and other liquids consumed in space surfaced after Italian European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti received an espresso machine. The opportunity to study capillary flow, liquid containment, and low-gravity fluid dynamics was too great to pass up. A team of researchers was assembled by NASA, and they went to work designing six different transparent polymer cups for use on the space station.  Five of the cups hold 150ml, while the sixth, a smaller 60ml vessel, was desig

BEWARE OF COMMON COLD AND FLU

The common cold is the most common illness the  today, and it is also the most common reason for doctor's visits, yet there is no cure for it. Symptoms Cold symptoms typically last between seven and 10 days. Symptoms start out mild and then gradually worsen over the next few days. While a cold can leave you feeling pretty miserable, it typically isn't severe enough to interfere with your day-to-day activities. Common symptoms include: congestion cough runny or stuffy nose itchy or watery eyes sore throat feeling tired headache fever (rarely—more common in children) Diagnosis Most people do not go to the doctor to be diagnosed with a cold. Even if you do, it will be diagnosed based on your symptoms and physical exam, not by any specialized tests, although some tests may be run to rule out other causes for your symptoms. KNOW YOUR HEART THE UNIQUE ORGAN

The heart is a unique organ that has components of both muscle and nervous tissue. As part of the cardiovascular system, its job is to pump blood to the cells and tissues of the body. Did you know that your heart can continue to beat even if it is not in your body? Discover 10 fascinating facts about your heart. 1. Your heart beats around 100,000 times in a year  In young adults, the heart beats between 70 (at rest) and 200 (heavy exercise) times per minute. In one year, the heart beats around 100,000 times. In 70 years, your heart will beat more than 2.5 billion times.   2. Your heart pumps about 1.3 gallons of blood in one minute When at rest, the heart can pump approximately 1.3 gallons (5 quarts) of blood per minute. Blood circulates through the entire system of blood vessels in only 20 seconds. In a day, the heart pumps around 2,000 gallons of blood through thousands of miles of blood vessels. 3. Your heart starts beating between 3 and 4 weeks after conception Th

SOME BLOODY FACTS

Blood is the life giving fluid that delivers oxygen to the cells of the body. It is a specialized type of connective tissue that consists of red blood cells, platelets, and white blood cells suspended in a liquid plasma matrix. Did you know that blood accounts for about 8 percent of your body weight or that blood contains small amounts of gold?  While humans have red colored blood, other organisms have blood of varying colors. Crustaceans, spiders, squid, octopuses, and some arthropods have blue blood. Some types of worms and leeches have green blood. Some species of marine worms have violet blood. Insects, including beetles and butterflies, have colorless or pale-yellowish blood. The color of blood is determined by the type of respiratory pigment used to transport oxygen via the circulatory system to cells. The respiratory pigment in humans is a protein called hemoglobin found in red blood cells. Your body contains about a gallon of

ANTIBODIES HE PROTECTOR OF OUR BODY

What Are Antibodies? Antibodies (also called immunoglobulins) are specialized proteins that travel thorough the blood stream and are found in bodily fluids. They are utilized by the immune system to identify and defend against foreign intruders to the body. These foreign intruders, or antigens, include any substance or organism that evokes an immune response. Bacteria, viruses, pollen, and incompatible blood cell types are examples of antigens that cause immune responses. Antibodies recognize specific antigens by identifying certain areas on the surface of the antigen known as antigenic determinants. Once the specific antigenic determinant is recognized, the antibody will bind to the determinant. The antigen is tagged as an intruder and labeled for destruction by other immune cells. Antibodies protect against substances prior to cell infection. Antibody Production Antibodies are produced by a type of white bloo
