Facebook Watch is an American video-on-demand service operated by Meta Platforms. It was announced on August 9, 2017, with initial availability the next day and with rollout to all U.S. users by the end of the month.
Facebook Watch is Facebook's video-on-demand service that combines aspects of its video-sharing functionality with premium content. It allows creators to upload their own short- and long-form videos, but it also includes original comedy, drama, and news programming.
To access Watch on iOS and Android, look for the Watch icon in your shortcuts bar or the “More” bookmark. You can also find Watch on Apple TV, Samsung Smart TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Xbox One, and Oculus TV.
Viewers without a Facebook account can access the stream directly using the livestream URL, or they can watch the live stream embed on your website or blog.
Watch is a completely free, social media-driven service, it doesn't come with a long list of features. But it does offer a community vibe. There's the ability to talk to fans of shows and even watch them together.
Facebook reported that 140 million people per day spent at least one minute in Watch, and 720 million viewers per month.
In-stream ads help eligible video creators earn money by including short video or image ads in qualifying videos. Creators get a share of the revenue from the video ads shown to their viewers. Viewers must view the entire ad to continue watching a video.
A spokesperson for MotorTrend said its Facebook Watch offering will cost subscribers $4.99 per month. Facebook said Facebook Watch subscriptions will include the same features as current shows on the platform, including Watch Parties, which enable fans to simultaneously view shows and interact in real-time
Your watch history: Your watch history is never visible to others on Facebook. However, if you take a specific action related to a video or a Page (example: liking a video), that action may be visible to people on Facebook.
