TECH- WHAT IS BLUETOOTH

Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard used for exchanging data between fixed and mobile devices over short distances using UHF radio waves in the industrial, scientific and medical radio bands, from 2.402 GHz to 2.480 GHz, and building personal area networks (PANs).

It  is a wireless technology that uses a radio frequency to share data over a short distance, eliminating the need for wires. You can use Bluetooth on your mobile device to share documents or to connect with other Bluetooth-enabled devices.

Bluetooth, developed in the late 1990s, is a technology designed to enable short-range wireless communication between electronic devices, such as between a laptop and a smartphone or between a computer and a television.

A wireless technology that allows the exchange of data between different devices. While Bluetooth uses wavelength to transmit information, it generally only works within a short distance for the devices to stay connected.

It is a handy feature that allows you to easily connect up your various devices, whether you're trying to get your new wireless headphones to talk to your Android phone or connecting your Apple Watch to your iPhone

 Difference between WIFI and Bluetooth?

The most distinction between Bluetooth and Wifi is that, Bluetooth is actually accustomed connect short-range devices for sharing information whereas Wifi is used for providing high-speed web access or internet.  It requires bluetooth adapter on all devices for connectivity.

Should I have my Bluetooth on or off?
Windows, Android, Linux, and iOS have been vulnerable to BlueBorne in the past. Millions could still be at risk. So,  turn off Bluetooth if you're not using it or if you're near anyone you don't trust. You might end up flipping the switch fairly often to use Bluetooth headphones.13-S

You can use Bluetooth without Wi-Fi. In fact, Bluetooth does not need any internet access at all to be set up and used. However, you will find many Bluetooth devices are also capable of connecting to the internet
A Bluetooth® device works by using radio waves instead of wires or cables to connect with your cell phone, smartphone or computer. So when Bluetooth-enabled products, such as a cell phone and headphones, are in close proximity to each other, they connect, or pair.

Is it OK to leave your Bluetooth on all the time?
If your device hasn't been updated, the easiest way to avoid BlueBorne is to disable its Bluetooth and use it as little as possible.  But leaving your Bluetooth on all the time can be dangerous, and hackers are exploiting the technology to access private information, spread malicious software and more.

When should I use Bluetooth?
What can I use Bluetooth for?
  1. For listening to music. One of the most common uses for Bluetooth is to connect your smartphone to wireless speakers or headphones.
  2. For hands-free headsets. Making use of hands-free headsets is another popular use for Bluetooth.
  3. For file transfer.
  4. For hands-free in cars.

Why is Bluetooth always on?
However, the most probable causes for Bluetooth to turn on automatically on an android device are caused due to the following reasons: Bluetooth scanning to improve location accuracy. Permission given to apps to change system settings.

Does leaving Bluetooth on drain battery?
Having Bluetooth on but not running doesn't really impact battery life much at all. Tests run on typical smartphones reveal that leaving Bluetooth on but not using it only drains 1.8% of your battery throughout the day.

  2. Turn off Bluetooth when not in use.
  3. Do not operate Bluetooth devices in Mode 1; ensure discovery mode is enabled only when necessary to pair trusted devices

Can I be hacked through Bluetooth?
Android users: You might not want to use Bluetooth in public for a while, because there's a serious flaw that could let anyone within Bluetooth range -- say, in a subway car, on a busy street or in a parking lot -- wirelessly hack your device without your knowledge.  An attack will simply crash Bluetooth.
Why is it called Bluetooth?
Surprisingly, the name dates back more than a millennia to King Harald “Bluetooth” Gormsson who was well known for two things: Uniting Denmark and Norway in 958. His dead tooth, which was a dark blue/grey color, and earned him the nickname Bluetooth.
