OLYMPIC GAMES

    
THE   FIRST   OLYMPIC  GAMES   were  held  in  Greece  in  776BCE. There  was  only  one  event  - a sprint  of  200  m(800ft) in  which  the  competitors   run  with  any  clothes.The  prize for  athletes   back  then , along   with  great  fame, was  a  wreath  of  olive  leaves,and  a  statue of  them  placed  at  Olympia.
The  modern  Olympic  Games  takes  place   every our  year  (fully   dressed)  competitors   from   all  around  the  world.
The  summer  Olympic   Games  includes  sports  like-Archery,Athletics,Badminton,,Baseball,Basketball,Boxing
Canoeing,Cycling,Decathlon,Diving,Fencing,Field hockey,Football,
Gymnastics,Handball,Horse riding,Judo,Rowing,Modern pentathlon,Sailing,,Shooting,Softball,Swimming,Tennis,Table tennis.
Volleyball,Water polo,Triathlon.
OLYMPIC  MEDAL.-The   Olympic  Gold  medals  are    actually  Sterling  Silver,covered  with  very  thin  gold  coat    of  gold.
STARTING  RACES-An    electronic  gun   sound  generator  is  used  to  start  races.When  the  trigger  is  pulled ,a  signal  is  to  the   sound   generator,which produces  a  sound  and transmit  it  by cable  to  a  loudspeaker in  the  back  of  each  competitor's starting  block.
Electronic   starting  blocks can  distinguish  between  an   Athlete's unintentional   movement and  a  false start
At   the  finish   line , athletes  can  be  timed  to  within  a  thousandth  of  a  second  using   a  split -video photo finish  system.
An   image  of the  athletes   is  shown  on  monitors for  judges  to  study.They    can  move  a  cursor   over  each  athlete  and  read  the  time  from  a scale. 
The  Olympic  Flame  -Running   is  the   most  common  way  to  transport  the    Flame   between  Olympia , Greece   .and  the  Olympic  site  of  the   host   city.The  flame  is  kept  burning  overnight  in  special  cauldrons  along  the  route.
