FISHES

FISH  ARE  Vertebrates (animals  with  backbone) that  live   in  the  sea  and in  freshwater.Like  all  animals  they  have to  breathe in  oxygen .lungs  would  fill up , with  water ,so  instead  fish  have   feathery  gills  at  the  back  of  the  head  that  extract  oxygen   from  water  as  it  flows  over  them.
Fish  have  streamlined  body  ,the  ideal  shape  to  move through  water.Fish  also   have  overlapping  scales  These  forms  a   smooth  surface  for  water to  flow. over.It   has  a  tail  fin  ,that  gives  forward  thrust  to
push fish  through  the water.Other  fins  are  pelvic   fins,these  used  to  steer  the  fish,Pectoral  fins,  used  to  control  the direction   of  movement.Dorsal  fin-This  controls  ,how  much  fish  rolls to  one  side  or the  other..Another  important  parts  are  Operculum - A   flap  that  cover  the  gills,and  opens to  let  water  flow  out.Lateral  line-sensors  here  direct  sound  vibration   and  water  movement.Another  important  thing  in   fish   are  Slimy   mucus-This  makes  fish  slippery  and  protect   against  parasite.and  finally  Eyes  ,are  important for  navigation  and  to  find  food.
FISH  FAMILIES-  'FISH'   is  a  general  name  given   to     a  range  of  vertebrates  with  streamlined  bodies  that  live  in  water.There  are  three  types  of   fish.
JAWLESS   -These   are  long  ,thin  and  have  a  sucking  mouth    to  grasp  food .This   group  includes -Lampreys  and  hagfish.
CARTILAGINOUS-These  fish  have  a  skeleton  made  of   flexible  cartilage  instead  of  bones.

BONY  FISH- This  is the  largest     group  of  fish .They   have  a  skeleton   made  of  bone    and  come  in  all  shape  and  size.

ELECTRIC   FISH-Some  fish  have  electricity  on  their  body.  and  can  give   an  electric   shock  if     touched.Some  electric  fishes  are  -Electric  EELS -These  lives  in  South American  rivers  and produced   500  volt  electric  pulses  to  stun  prey  and  deter  predators.
Electric   Catfish  -  These    are  found  in tropical   Africa. and  are nocturnal    hunter(hunting  at  night)It  uses  its  electric  organs  to   generate 300  volts.  to  stun  prey.
Electric  rays - It  can  produce  220  volts  to   stun its  prey.
Elephantnose   fish - It   produce   weak   electric  currents  to  help  navigation.
 DANGEROUS  FISH   SHARK-  Sharks   often  attacks  human  and   devour  them  ,thinking  them  its  prey.There  are  countless   incidence  when  shark  attack  humans   and  kill  them  or   ate  them  up.Though  all  Sharks  are  not  man eater  ,but some  are   defamed   for  this.These  are-

GREAT    WHITE  SHARK-This    scary  predator  does  attack  humans,though  it  does not  really  like its taste.

HAMMERHEAD   SHARK-  It     has  widely  spaced  eyes .This  shark  is  prone  to  making   unpredictable  attacks   on  humans.
BLUE  SHARK-This  is  the  most  wide spread   of   all  sharks.The    blue  shark   commonly    circles   its  prey   before  attacking  them.
The     whale    shark  is   around  43ft (13m) in  length     is  the  biggest   fish  in  the  world.
The    great  white  shark   migrates a  distance of  20,000  km  (12,430mile) during  its  return trip   between  south Africa    and  Australia

Sea  horses-   Sea    horses  are  bony  fish,but  their  body is   not  covered  with    scales.The  male  has  a  pouch   in  his  body  into  which  female  lays  up  to  600   eggs.He  incubates  the  eggs  in  his  pouch  until  they  hatch.

  • A   Gold    fish  can   live   up  to  40  years.
  • The   smallest  fish  in  the  world is  Paedocypris progenetica.Its  length  is  just.3  inch
  • The  longest  living  fish  is   Rougheye  rockfish .Its     age  in  years  is  140    years.
  • The  stone fish  found   in  the  Indian  and   the  Pacific   Oceans, has  spiny  fins   filled  with  venom  that  can  be  fatal   to  people   who  step  on  them .

  • Fish     those   lives  in  Coral  reefs  have  bright  colors  and  patterns      to  break  up  their  outlines  making it  harder   for  predators to  catch  them  or   for  prey  to   see  them  coming.

  • The  deep  sea   Angler fish    emit  light  to    attract   its  prey.It  has  flexible  bones ,allowing  the   jaws  and  stomach  to  expand  and  create  room  for  prey   twice    the  size  of  its  entire  body.
