DUBAI -THE GREAT CITY

Dubai is a city and emirate in the United Arab Emirates known for luxury shopping, ultramodern architecture and a lively nightlife scene. Burj Khalifa, an 830m-tall tower, dominates the skyscraper-filled skyline. At its foot lies Dubai Fountain, with jets and lights choreographed to music. On artificial islands just offshore is Atlantis, The Palm, a resort with water and marine-animal parks.

Oil has made Dubai one

of the richest states or emirates in the world. The city is the wealthy trading hub for the Gulf and Africa. Even though Dubai has little oil, the black gold has made the city rich. In less than 50 years, Its robust economy has made Dubai an affluent state admired around the world.

The UAE is the third-richest country in the world, below Luxembourg at number two and Qatar at number one, with a GDP per capita of $57,744. The bulk of its money comes from the production of goods and provision of services related to petroleum, petrochemicals, aluminium and cement.

Dubai's official language is Arabic but there are many variations prevalent in the city. Standard Arabic – the modernised, literary version – is the one you'll encounter in all legal, administrative and government texts, as well as books and newspaper.

It's illegal to drink in the street or a public place or be under the influence of alcohol in a public space. The legal drinking age in Dubai is 21 years old.
