TRAVEL - RIGA -LATVIA

Riga is the Latvia 's primate city. It is also the largest city in the three Baltic states and is home to one tenth of the three Baltic states' combined population. The city lies on the Gulf of Riga at the mouth of the Daugava river where it meets the Baltic Sea..

Riga is the capital and the largest city of Latvia. With 696,593 inhabitants (2015), Riga is the largest city of the Baltic states and home to one third of Latvia's population. The city lies on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the Daugava.

Riga, the capital of Latvia. It was one of  favorite destinations of  summer in Europe . A beautiful city? Absolutely, with UNESCO World Heritage-listed architecture.

After more than 700 years of German, Swedish and Russian rule, Latvia, with Riga as its capital city, declared its independence on 18 November 1918. . Between World War I and World War II (1918–1940), Riga and Latvia shifted their focus from Russia to the countries of Western Europe.

How much money will you need for your trip to Riga? You should plan to spend around €62 ($75) per day on your vacation in Riga, which is the average daily price based on the expenses of other visitors. Past travelers have spent, on average, €19 ($24) on meals for one day and €2.97 ($3.61) on local transportation.

Riga is a relatively safe city when compared to other cities in Europe. As with all big cities you must be aware of your surroundings. Pick pocketing is common within the tourist areas of Riga, specifically in the central market and between the bus station tunnel and the Old Town, along Valnu Street.

While you can undoubtedly see the main tourist attractions in 1 or 2 days in Riga, I recommending spending at least 3 days in Riga to give yourself an opportunity to explore beyond the central areas of the city.

Riga food and drink prices USD

If your hotel doesn't include breakfast you'll still have cheap options nearby. Pancakes, blinis, and potatoes are among the many cheap local options here. Even sit-down meals with a meat dish are very affordable in Riga if you go local. As always, the local lager is the cheapest option.

Pelēkie zirņi ar speķi is the national dish of Latvia. This type of stew is made with local grey peas (similar to chickpeas), fried onions, and diced speck. The dish was invented when locals used their supplies of dried and preserved food.

 Regional drinks

It is drunk either with coffee, vodka or on its own. There are several good local beers, including Cēsu, Aldaris, Uzavas, Bauskas Tumšais and Gaišais. Kvass (made from grains in the early stages of fermentation) is a refreshing summer drink. Fruit juices made from wild berries are popular.

Riga Black Balsam (Latvian: RÄ«gas Melnais balzams) is a traditional Latvian balsam made using a single-barrel infusion technology.

Latvians while not overtly gregarious – are very friendly. Nearly all Latvians speak three languages well.  Most Latvians will gladly assist, and many will go the extra mile to showcase Latvia's hospitable side. Perhaps this is why we are so charmed with Latvia.
