GREAT SCIENTISTS OF WORLD -LEONARDO DA VINCI

Leonardo da Vinci was a Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, inventor, military engineer and draftsman — the epitome of a true Renaissance man. Gifted with a curious mind and a brilliant intellect, da Vinci studied the laws of science and nature, which greatly informed his work.

da Vinci (1452-1519) was born in Anchiano, Tuscany (now Italy), close to the town of Vinci that provided the surname we associate with him today.

Leonardo da Vinci was an artist and engineer who is also   best known for his paintings, notably the Mona Lisa (c. 1503–19) and the Last Supper (1495–98). His drawing of the Vitruvian Man (c. 1490) has also become a cultural icon.

As an engineer, Leonardo conceived ideas vastly ahead of his own time, conceptually inventing the parachute, the helicopter, an armored fighting vehicle, the use of concentrated solar power, a calculator, a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics and the double hull.

Leonardo da Vinci began painting the Mona Lisa in 1503, and it was in his studio when he died in 1519. He likely worked on it intermittently over several years, adding multiple layers of thin oil glazes at different times.

Guinness World Records lists Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa as having the highest ever insurance value for a painting. On permanent display at the Louvre in Paris, the Mona Lisa was assessed at US$100 million on December 14, 1962. Taking inflation into account, the 1962 value would be around US$850 million in 2019

Da Vinci painted the Last Supper. the painting depicts Jesus's last meal with his apostles before he was captured and crucified. But more specifically, Leonardo da Vinci wanted to capture the instant just after Jesus reveals that one of his friends will betray him, complete with reactions of shock and rage from the apostles.

Leonardo da Vinci's Machine Gun was the first auto-firing weapon ever invented. He designed it in such a way that when it was first fired another set of barrels would rotate around and e ready to fire almost immediately.

One of da Vinci's most famous inventions, the flying machine (also known as the "ornithopter") ideally displays his powers of observation and imagination, as well as his enthusiasm for the potential of flight.

While many of da Vinci's designs seem far-fetched, he did work on ideas and items we use today. He created the first usable versions of scissors, portable bridges, diving suits, a mirror-grinding machine similar to those used to make telescopes, and a machine to produce screws.

He had designs for a Catapult, a giant crossbow, a tank, a steam powered cannon and deviously designed horse powered carts and weapons.

He envisaged a cart that was able to be propelled without being pushed which is essentially what we have in a car today. As well as flight and aviation, locomotion and transportation were one of Leonardo da Vinci's great interests.

Being curious about everything and curious just for curiosity's sake, not simply because it's useful, is the defining trait of Leonardo. It's how he pushed himself and taught himself to be a genius. we can all try to learn from, and copy, Leonardo's curiosity.

His natural genius crossed so many disciplines that he epitomized the term “Renaissance man.” Today he remains best known for his art, including two paintings that remain among the world's most famous and admired, Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Art, da Vinci believed, was indisputably connected with science and nature.
