GREAT SCIENTISTS OF WORLD- LOUIS PASTEUR

Louis Pasteur, (born December 27, 1822, Dole, France—died September 28, 1895, Saint-Cloud), French chemist and microbiologist who was one of the most important founders of medical microbiology. Pasteur's contributions to science, technology, and medicine are nearly without precedent.

He   was a French chemist and microbiologist whose work changed medicine. He proved that germs cause disease; he developed vaccines for anthrax and rabies; and he created the process of pasteurization.

He is regarded as one of the three main founders of bacteriology, together with Ferdinand Cohn and Robert Koch, and is popularly known as the "father of microbiology". Pasteur was responsible for disproving the doctrine of spontaneous generation.

Louis Pasteur is best known for inventing the process that bears his name, pasteurization. ... In his work with silkworms, Pasteur developed practices that are still used today for preventing disease in silkworm eggs. Using his germ theory of disease, he also developed vaccines for chicken cholera, anthrax, and rabies.

In 1861, Pasteur published his germ theory which proved that bacteria caused diseases..

Proving the germ theory of disease was the  biggest   achievement of Louis Pasteur. He discovered that he found that healthy silk-worms became ill when they nested in the bedding of those suffering from disease..

He   discovered that microbes were responsible for souring alcohol and came up with the process of pasteurization, where bacteria are destroyed by heating beverages and then allowing them to cool. His work in germ theory also led him and his team to create vaccinations for anthrax and rabies.

Louis Pasteur is best known for inventing the process that bears his name, pasteurization. Pasteurization kills microbes and prevents spoilage in beer, milk, and other goods. In his work with silkworms, Pasteur developed practices that are still used today for preventing disease in silkworm eggs.

Louis Pasteur's pasteurization experiment illustrates the fact that the spoilage of liquid was caused by particles in the air rather than the air itself. These experiments were important pieces of evidence supporting the idea of germ theory of disease.

He    created the first vaccines for fowl cholera; anthrax, a major livestock disease that in recent times has been used against humans in germ

  •  In 1859  he  first discovered how yeast works:
  • Yeast feeds on the starches in flour, producing carbon dioxide.
  • The carbon dioxide expands the gluten proteins in the flour.
  • The gluten proteins cause the dough (of which flour is a main ingredient) to expand and rise.

Marie Pasteur, née Laurent, was the  Wife  and   scientific assistant and co-worker of  Louis Pasteur.

They were married on May 29, 1849, and together had five children, only two of whom survived to adulthood; the other three died of typhoid.

In 1868, Pasteur suffered a severe brain stroke that paralysed the left side of his body, but he recovered. A stroke or uremia in 1894 severely impaired his health. Failing to fully recover, he died on September 28, 1895, near Paris.
