SPACE - HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE

ORBITING    300  MILES  ABOVE , the  Earth ,  the  Hubble    space  Telescope     by  passes   the  blurring   effects  of  the  atmosphere    to  give    astronomers    some  of  the    clearest    and   deepest   views    of  space,  ever  witnessed  . During  1995,Hubble    sent  back  images   that  significantly    improved  our   understanding  of  the  universe .Scientist   believed     that  there  were  about   10  billion  galaxies   in  the  Universe ., until  studies   of  Hubble's  deep  field   view  enabled  them   to  calculate   this  figure  is  closer  to   50   billlion  .Details  of  the  stunning  photographs   of  the  intersteller   cloud   and  dust  columns    found  in  the  Eagle   Nebula  have  documented  ,  for& nbsp; the  first  time ,  the  way    in which   newly  formed   stars  are   revealed   by a  process  called  "photo evaporation", where  ultraviolet   rays   light  from  nearby  stars  erodes  surrounding  clouds   of  gas  into  space .Close   ups   of  the  Orion Nebula   provide  the  best  evidence   so  far that the   dark  "splotches"  found  within  it   are  discs  of  dust  swirling   around   protostars (baby  stars).These  are  believed   to  be  the  solar systems  in  the   making.Which   increases   the  chance   of    finding  life    elsewhere  in  the  Universe.
HUBBLE   SPACE  TELESCOPE -When  Hubble  was  first  launched     from  the  space  shuttle  in  April  1990.
NASA     scientists   discovered   several  structural   flaws , including  a   fault   with   the  2.4  m   mirror .A  repair   mission  was   successfully   performed   by   astronauts    in  December 1995.
