TSUNAMI




TSUNAMI     IS  A  JAPANESE   WORD  ,WHICH  means  'harbor waves'. It   is   a  series   of  water   waves   caused  by   the   displacement   of    of  a  large  volume   of   a  body  of  water ,usually   an   ocean. Tsunamis    are  caused   by  under  sea  landslides   or  by  'sea  quakes',that  is  an   earthquake   whose  epicenter    lies  below   the  ocean .If  the  sea  bed  is  displaced  up  to  several   meters,the  water  layer    of  several  kilometer   in  thickness     above  it. also   moves   with  it.The  waves  caused    by   the  movement   has  a  lot  of  energy-  much  more  than   a   wave  of  same  height   whipped  by  the  wind .This    become   apparent  when  the   waves    moves  towards  the   coast.
In   December    2004  ,around  ,230,000 people  died  in  a  devastating   tsunami.But  most  of  Tsunamis  do  not   caused   any  damage ,as  they  occur  in   the  sparsely   populated  pacific  area
