IN Recent times the Doon Police has advanced a lot in its functions ,particularly its City Patrol Unit(CPU) wing.This dedicated force to manage traffic in a better way has worked wonderfully since its inception on April 1 ,this year.
The impact of the force has been such that at present , 99% of the two wheeler users in the capital are wearing helmets.The parking problems in important areas of the city also have gone down.The drivers have become more responsible , while driving as they feel some one now can check them , anytime ,anywhere .From April 1 to July 31, CPU took action against 5,000 vehicle owners for flouting norms and collected fines worth Rs 42.32 lakh.
In the last four months ,the work of CPU has been applauded by Senior officers and also by general public.
The reason behind this success lies mainly in their behavior and dealings with public.
The politeness of CPU officers while taking action against offenders , using words like Sir/ma'am makes people happy and cooperative towards officers.They also feel honored. Some even don't considered CPU officers as ' Police' ,they are so friendly.Besides ,video recording each incident makes their point strong.Another thing, if CPU arrests any person , it tell him/her that they have the right to remain silent and that whatever they say can go against them and they can call their lawyers for legal help.
Thus people accepts their mistakes and easily pays fine.
The success story doesn't stops here.Now it reaches far and wide .The Bangalore Police
wants to imitate this system ,and contemplating its own City Patrol Unit.The police from "Silicon Valley of India " is so much impressed by this project that ,it has sent two member team of its officers to examine the functioning of CPU,who met senior officers and the DGP BS Sidhu.
CPU was the brain child of DGP BS Sidhu ,who introduce the concept in Dehra Dun on April 1 ,this year.
It is really great that one of the biggest metropolitan city's , (Bangalore) police has come to learn from Doon police .
It is really a matter of proud not only for Doon Police but also for Uttrakhand.
Such amendments should also be introduce in regular police ,so that it can becomes an ideal police force in the country. Good things are always appreciated by one and all.
