CARNIVOROUS PLANTS


CARNIVOROUS    PLANTS   OR flesh   EATING  PLANTS  are   the  plants   which  eats   Insects  and  small  animals. One   such   plant  is  brightly  colored  Pitcher   plant lives  in  boggy  soils   that   are   low   in  nutrients.They  get  extra  nutrients   by  trapping   insects  and  other  small  animals.Pitcher   plants  lure   insects  to  jug   shaped  traps  on  the  end of  their   leaves.
Another   Insectivores  plant  is    SUN DEWS   .It  has  a  very  sticky   weapon -their  hairs.It  an  lured  insects  by  its  attractive  colors  and  an unsuspecting  fly    soon  find  itself   struck  to   beads of  glue   at  the  tip  of  Sun dew's   hairs. 
Once   the  insect  struck ,the   sticky  hairs   curls  round  it.The   Sun dew   digest  the  insect  and  absorbs  nutrients.Any  indigestible  part  remain  struck   to  the  leaf.
ANOTHER    INSECTIVOROUS    PLANT  IS   THE   VENUS   FLY TRAP'S   hinged  trap  imprisons  an   unwary  damselfly .After  about  a  week ,  the  trap  reopens  letting  the  dead  remains  fall  to  the  ground.Each  trap  digest  several  meals    ,and  then  withers away.
THE  PROCESS  GOES  LIKE  THIS-
  • Once   the  damselfly    land  on  the  plant  three  small    bristles   in  the  middle  of  each  pad  activate  the  trap.
  •  The  pads  snap   together   when  the  damselfly  touches  two  of  the   triggers.

  •  Digestive  enzymes  break  down   the  damselfly  body.
