DANGER OF EXTINCTION

THERE    HAVE   BEEN   five   mass   extinction  events  in  the  Earth's  history, the  last  time  it   was  ,65  million   years  ago, the  dinosaurs vanished    ,Now       again   there  is  a  danger  of  extinction    due  to  human .  Men  drives     more  animals  and  plants  to   extinction.Men   destroys  the  life support  systems that  all  species  depend   on  including  humans.
PATHS   TO    EXTINCTION.
  • Growing  population- The    more  people  there  are  the  less  space   there  is   for  animals.
  • Habitat   destruction.
  • Pollution.
  • Hunting  and  fishing.
  • Alien  invaders.-When    humans  bring  align  animals  or  plant   into  a  new  habitat,  the  native  species  often  can't    compete   or  will  catch   diseases      they  can't  fight.
  • Climate  change.-Global  warming  is   attacking  animals   and  plants  in  number  of ways - from  melting  the  sea ice  that  polar  bear  need  for  hunting  to  bringing  tropical  rains   early, plants  blossom   to  soon  to  feed  the   animals  that  depend  on  them.
ENDANGERED    ANIMALS- Some   endangered   animals   are -
POLAR   BEAR-  Global   warming   is  a  serious  threat  as  their  natural   habitat  melts   away.

GIANT    ARMADILLO-Hunted  for   food .It's  50  percent   population  have  been  killed   in  last  ten  years.
IBERIAN  LYNX- Just   150  left  in  the  wild, this  is  the  most  threatened    cat  species   in  the  world.
MOUNTAIN  GORILLA-There  population   left   to  only    700. in  the  wild.Expanding  farms  have left   their  forest  home   isolated  and  they are  threatened    by  poachers.

ORANG- U TANG- Poaching   and   massive  deforestation   due  to  oil  palm  plantations. now 60,000    survive  in  the  wild.
BISON-Millions   of  shot   in  the  19th  century  and  now  only   3,000  truly  wild  bison.Native  of  North -America,  they  are being   saved   from  extinction    by  a  breeding  program me
AYE-AYE-This  nocturnal   primate   is  threatened  by  the  destruction  of  rainforest.A  native  of  Madagascar,  left  very    few  in  the  wild.
BENGAL   TIGER-The  royal   Bengal   tiger   is  poached   for    the  illegal  fur  trade   and  Asian  medicine  market. They   are  now  less  than 1,500 in  the  wild.
BLUE  WHALES-Almost  wipe  out  by  the  whaling  ships     in  the  1960s.now  less   than 5000    remain.Population  have   recovered   since a  whaling  ban   was  implemented.

ANIMALS   THAT  HAVE  BEEN  EXTINCT.
Some  strange  animals  roam  freely  in  this  land ,but  now  are  no  more  and  have  vanished  for  ever.
MAMMOTH-Due  to  climate   change  and  hunting,  woolly  mammoth   vanished   from  Europe   around  10,00   BCE.A  small  group  survived  wrangel  island(Siberia)  until  1,650BCE.

DODO-  It  was  a  flightless  bird native  to  the  island  of Mauritius  in  the Indian  ocean. It  was  wiped  out   little  more  than  a century  after  it  was  discovered   by   humans   in  1581.
The phrase    'dead  as  dodo' .rightly  shows its  extinction.
GREAT  AUK- This  flightless  bird   had  white  and  black  feathers. It  was  once  numerous    along  north  Atlantic  coastline,  but  it  was eventually  hunted   the  great  auk   to  extinction  in  1844.
QUAGGA- It  was  a  zebra   with  stripes  on  front of  the  body. It  roamed  South  Africa's  cape  province.  in  large  numbers  until the  1840s, when  it  was hunted  to  extinction by  bore  settlers.
WAYS  TO SAVE   A  SPECIES.-
  • Setting  up   nature  reserves  and  parks   so  that  enough  numbers  of  rare  animals  live  in  the  wild   to  survive  on   their  own.
  • Building  up population   of  rare   animals  in  zoos  through  captive  breeding   that  can  be  release into  the  wild.
  • International  agreements  on  hunting  can  protect  endangered  animals  such   blue  whale.
  • Using alternatives   in place  of  products   from  rare  animals,   like  rhino  horns   used  in  some   Chinese  medicines.

  • Storing   an  animal's  genetic  material  in   a  gene  bank  so  that  in  future   scientist    may  be  able   to  'grow' a new animal  of  an  extinct  species .
  • Poaching  should  sternly  checked  in  reserve  forests,  these  poachers  are  a real  danger  for rare  animals    in  particular  and  other  animals  in  general.
Some  other  endangered   animals    are-
Blue   whale,Snow  leopard, Tiger,  Albatross,cheetah,lion blue billed  duck.,Solitary  eagle.Java  rhino,South China tiger.
It  is    the  duty  of  every ' world'  citizens  to  show  concern  over  the  issue of  conserving  wild  life  of  our   planet  Earth. These  are  the  greatest  gift  of  nature  to  us.If  we  want  that,  coming  generation  could  witness  this  marvel  of  nature ,then  we  must  protest   against   any  activity   that  cause   destruction   to  our wild  life.
 EXTINCT  ANIMALS.
